An Edwardian sapphire and diamond ring, Palfrey, Melbourne. The central, cushion cut blue sapphire of estimated weight 6.15 carats set in a finely pierced, domed surround. 18ct yellow gold and platinum. Size P ½. Provenance: Property of the Martin Family. Mrs Kathleen Martin was given this ring as a gift from her dear friend Oliver Streeton. (Son of the famous Australian artist Sir Arthur Streeton) Family lore has it that this ring had been given to Ester Streeton, wife of Sir Arthur Streeton when she played violin solo the Queen's consort, Mary, wife of King George V in London, 1912. The ring is accompanied by a note from Oliver Streeten to Kathleen Martin. The note is to be retained by the family. This is for you darling, with my fondest love which will last for ever, yours Oliver.
