A Chinese giltwood Cundi Bodhisattva, late Ming/ early Qing Dynasty, in seated position with eighteen arms representing the eighteen merits of attaining Buddhahood, and commonly referred to as 'The goddess of seventy Million (Buddhas)', 58 cm high. Provenance: letter with statutory declaration dated April 15, 1955 by R.Bensabott, Importer of Art and objects Chicago Illinois. Addressed to a Dr Michael Mc Grarth of Indiana; the letter stating the Buddha originated from the temple of a Thousand Genni, looted by an army Captain during the T'ai P'ing rebellion.
