A large Theodolite, William Cary (1759-1825), London, housed in cedar case, inscribed Cary London above one of the verniers., the trade label on the box reads 'A. Osterloh, chronometer, watch and clock maker. Maker of Mathematical instruments. 60 Rundle street, opposite the Hamburg Hotel, Adelaide'. 41 x 28 x 21 cm. Catalogue note: William Cary was a highly esteemed optical and mechanical instrument maker and apprentice to Jesse Ramsden (1735-1800). William was a charter member of the Astronomical Society, and produced monthly meteorological reports for the gentleman's magazine.
