Zhang Daqian (1899 - 1983) red lotus watercolour on paper c.1947-1948. Provenance: Purchased from the private collection of Ning Zhi Chao, author of many Chinese reference books, Zhang Daqian or Chang Dai-chien, was one of the best-known and most prodigious Chinese artists of the twentieth century. Originally known as a guohua (traditionalist) painter, by the 1960s he was also renowned as a modern impressionist and expressionist painter. Length 214 cm. Width 104 cm
