Description:
Richard Sturrock 19th century pottery beaker, incised with herons and ferns and inscribed 'Rfb Sturrock, Guildford, Albion Street, East Brunswick'. 'Guildford' was the name of the Sturrock family home. Richard's father Alexander Sturrock is listed as being the owner of this property in the 1890s and 1900s. Richard Sturrock (1867-1953) produced his work at home and probably had it fired and glazed at his colleague's (William Ferry), Victoria Art Pottery. The glazes are very similar and the proximity of Sturrock's home to the Vap factory in Albert St. supports the idea of collaboration between the two parties. William and Graham Ferry shared an interest with Sturrock in creating 'Art' pottery
