Bremner, Rear-Admiral Sir James John Gordon - Melville Island: 1847 (July 27) An original Admiralty Memorandum signed by Bremner as Commodore, HMS William & Mary, at Woolwich; to Captain Hall of HMS Dragon, informing him that Samuel Wheeler, Ship's Cook, should be transferred to the 'Vixen', his proper ship. Bremner [178601850] was involved in 1824 in establishing the short-lived British Settlement on Melville Island (the larger of the Tiwi Islands), called Fort Dundas. He was later involved in the nearby settlement at Port Essington
