Description:
A pair of Chinese cloisonne caparisoned elephants, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, each one standing four square under saddle and wearing a harness, the ears, etc detachable, surmounted by a ring-handled vase (removable) inscribed 'Jiang family vessel' ('Qian ju'), 20 cm high, 24 cm long, fitted wood stands. Provenance: From a Sydney collection acquired in Hong Kong before 1962 and passed on by descent. See 'Chinese Cloisonne, the Pierre Uldry Collection', 1885, cat no 332 for a similar pair.
