A Chinese court summer robe, Qing Dynasty 19th century, finely worked with five clawed dragons in gold thread on a blue gauze backing, pierced gold buttons. 133 cm wide, 190 cm long. Provenance: Dr Burden Collection, China 1890-1899, passed down by descent. Francis Burden left South Australia in late 1890 to work as a missionary for the China Inland Mission in Shanghai and Chung King. He returned in 1899.
