Description:
A rare first generation 1958 Eames 670/671 black leather and rosewood Lounger and ottoman the model 670 lounge chair and ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames is arguably one of the most recognisable designed chairs of the 20th century. From its prized spot in museuams like the MOMA to stylish interiors throughout the world, it embodies the modern design ethic of perfect form and function. The first Eames lounge chair and ottoman was designed as a gift for the couple's friend Billy Wilderb - one of the hottest film directors of the era. The chair was concieved as a modern take on the classic club armchair and marked the Eames's foray into designing furniture for the luxury market. Charles' vision was for a chair with 'The warm receptive look of a well used baseman's mitt'. What emerged was a design breakthrough that balanced comfort with a sleek, stripped back 'sthetic of luxury and bold elegance. A design that looks as fresh today as the day it was conceived
