Description:
Ian Robertson's Carlton Jumper, navy blue wool, 'CFC' logo on front, number '34' on reverse, button-up collar, sleeveless, believed to have been worn by Robertson in the 1968 & 1970 Grand Finals. Ian Robertson - Carlton 1966-74, 125 games, 86 goals; Footscray 1974, 4 games, 1 goal. Carlton recruited Robertson from Dalyston, but he could have easily been a Footscray player as he had been born in the suburb and his father wrote to the club asking them to give Ian a trial. When he got no reply he sent a letter to Carlton and Ron Barassisnapped him up. Two years into Robertson's career Footscray staked a claim saying he was theirs because he was living in Footscray. Robertson was actually travelling home each weekend to Wonthaggi. The dispute was settled when Carlton cleared Ken Greenwood to Footscray. Robertson gave the Blues invaluable service across the centreline. He played in the Blues' 1968, 1970 and 1972 premiership sides before ironically ending up back at Footscray. Robertson later became a popular television commentator with the Seven Network. From 'The Encyclop'dia of AFL Footballers'
