A set of Chinese carved ivory chess pieces and an antique Chinese lacquered games box, the set comprising twelve natural-coloured pieces and twelve red-stained (one pawn replaced with an associated chequer piece); the exterior of the games box with black and gilt-lacquered sides and borders surrounding a mother-of-pearl-inlaid chessboard in two hinged parts, the interior with a backgammon board and storage for pieces.
