Fine silver snuff box by Schaefer, in the Regency style with reeded body and floral scroll border and thumbpiece, the cover engraved with further floral border and inscribed: JTD/ from/ Tl/ 30th June 1888. marks: Schaefer (Crown) Melbourne (Crown). Weight: 114 grams. Length 7.5 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation. Notes: This is a rare example by this silversmith for whom no marks are recorded in JBH, the only reference to him is in vol II pp 313 in relation to the 1880 Melbourne Exhibition where his address is given as 33 Peel Street Windsor, there is further mention of him in the Argus Exhibition of 1881 when a prize for engraving? was awarded.
