Description:
Unusual cased Colonial silver flask and beaker of conical form with fitted beaker and screw cap with safety chain, with original leather case. Marks: unmarked, engraved to base: Alex Maitland, Ceylon 1867 and to side with itinerary of Glasgow to Auckland voyage 1870 as well as recording a London address in 1871. Height 31 cm Combined weight: 475grams. Provenance: Private Collection. Notes: Alexander Maitland was the Son of Thomas Maitland Governor of Ceylon and is recorded as a saloon passenger on the 700 tons ship Argylshire under Captain Tod which left Glasgow on 2nd April 1870 and arrived in Auckland 2nd August 1870
