Impressive silver double handled Rowing trophy by brush & Drummond, the double handled vase with a view of skullers before an industrial scape, flanked by embossed floral and fruit reserves and engraved with the following to the shoulder: 'Professional/ Champion Skuller' to the foot: 'Victorian Rowing Association'. Marks engraved: sterling silver/ brush & Drummond/ Makers. Height 44 cm; weight: 1780grams. Provenance: private collection. Notes: the Victorian Rowing Association appears to have been established in 1876. Samuel brush was in partnership with William MacDonnell in Sydney from 1850 and moved to Melbourne in 1857 to open another branch. Between 1867 and 1870 the partnership was dissolved when in 1873 brush took on William Drummond as a partner. Brush retired in 1880 and the firm continued on as William Drummond & Co, the engraving May well be by Samuel Calvert (1828-1913) who worked for brush & Drummond.
