A Worcester bell-shaped coffee cup, well painted in the studio of James Giles English, Circa 1770 With three chinoiseire panels spaced by orange panels with gilt lattice and chrysanthemum mon motifs, the front brightly painted with a boy holding a bird, the sides with flowering plants, with grooved loop handle. Unmarked, 6 cm high Reference: In search of James Giles p 228b, James Giles - China and Glass Painter #95 for a bowl in this pattern in the Ashmolean, Oxford; also Zorensky Collection #242 for a teapot. Sandon points out the static style of the Chinese figure compared to the more usual fluid figures on factory decorated Worcester of the period.
