A fine old Sepik carved wood head with shell eyes, middle Sepik River area, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, this carving might be a cult house window mask or possibly it might have been originally off a larger artwork. When important clan artworks where broken the fragments were often kept by family members as memory of a grandparent or other relative. Mid 20th century. On custom stand. Height 52 cm.
