A Winchester measure, England circa 1820, with the words 'Winchester measure Warranted' moulded within straight lines; moulded flowers around top and figures in cartouches to sides. Provenance: marked with incised cross; possibly Thomas Fell, Winchester measure is a set of legal standards of volume instituted in the late 15th century (1495) by King Henry VII of England. Such tankards are more often found in pewter than ceramic.
