William Simpson (Scottish, 1823 - 1899) Country scene, watercolour, signed and dated 1842 at lower right, 22 x 33 cm. Simpson was sent to cover the Crimean War with artworks to be published in English periodicals. He had a number of royal commissions and many of his works are held by the Victoria & Albert Museum.
