Description:
A 19th century mahogany regulator with interesting Australian provenance, the arched case with long glazed door on a tapering panelled base, the 11 inch silvered dial with concentric minute ring and subsidiaries for seconds (with observatory marks) and Roman hours, the weight driven movement with thick plates united by five massive turned pillars, screwed to the rear and extended to the front to form the dial feet, the deadbeat escapement, maintaining power, wheels of six crossings throughout with high court pinions, the mercury jar pendulum suspended from the heavy cast iron bracket screwed to the backboard. Height 212 cm. Provenance: This superb clock occupied pride of place in the window of Thomas Gaunt, Jewellers in the city of Melbourne, Australia from about 1850.
