Description:
An 19th century mahogany long case clock, possibly Irish, Cribb, Kilburn the hood with applied carved decoration over a trunk with canted front angles on a panelled base, the door set with a circular Barometer dial and (later wheat ear) hygrometer, level and thermometer, the 12 inch signed painted Roman dial with subsidiary seconds, the movement with anchor escapement rack striking on a bell. Height 208 cm Note: the setting of barometers in the doors of longcase clocks was very popular in parts of Ireland in the 19th century as it made perfect sense for a clock positioned in the hallway of a grand house to also be able to tell you the likely weather patterns as well as the current time.
