Description:
1921 Turcat-Mery 15/25hp California Coachwork by Smith & Waddington. Chassis no: 6118 Engine no: 181 Reg: Unregistered. After experimenting with Peugeots and Panhards, brothers-in law Leon Turcat and Simon Mery produced their first prototype automobile in 1896, offering their first car for sale in 1899. The Turcat-Mery Model A had a vertical 2. 6-litre four-cylinder engine, magneto ignition and chain drive. Unusually, it also had a radiator at each end of the engine and a five-speed gearbox, with two speeds in reverse! More conventional models followed and some Turcat-Mery designs were produced by the De Dietrich company, with which the brothers-in-law had strong connections
