Description:
A Royal Worcester porcelain vase and cover, Mid-1860s, the reserves decorated by Thomas Bott, Snr, of flattened bottle form on a moulded spreading circular foot, the wavy everted rim and slender neck above a pair of gilt classical winged busts to the shoulders, pink ground with gilt mouth and details, the front of the body with a large gilt-framed raised roundel decorated with a figure of a winged classical muse amidst clouds, that to the reverse with an arrangement of musical instruments and foliage suspended on a tied ribbon, the finial of the gilt and pink stopper modelled as a seated putto, the vase signed 'T. Bott' underside together with a printed factory mark, 34.5 cm high. Other notes: Potentially Exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle (given circa date and very early signature). Condition: minor surface wear to painted panel, also one scrape towards edge of the panel (in the clouds) and a smaller one nearby. Gilding in mostly good condition, minor gilt wear to the rim. Slight crazing to the glaze and a crescent shaped hairline visible to the underside of the foot., stopper blutacked into place for security (subsequently professionally removed)., stopper does not sit flush in vase (albeit the original)
