Description:
Joseph Knibb rare William and Mary period English longcase clock in floral Dutch marquetry case with oyster and figured walnut veneers and oval bullseye lenticle to the trunk door, 17th century. Eight day time and outside count wheel striking movement with five knopped and finned pillars. Anchor escapement with back plate cut-out and Knibb style pork pie bell. Dial engraved 'Joseph Knibb, Londini' on the lower edge, and adorned with Dutch style tulip engraving with ringed winding holes, substantial chapter ring with Roman numerals. Knibb operated in London during the last quarter of the 17th century, before moving to Buckinghamshire in 1697 where he continued to work until 1711. 232 cm high, 46 cm wide, 24 cm deep
