A Derby porcelain gilt figure of young man playing a violin, initialled IG, English circa 1755/60, marked IG in purple to base, patch marks. Provenance: Stoner and Evans, 3 King street St James's square, London. Albert Amor Ltd London. Robert Burke collection no 119. Reference: Sothebys The collection of Hanns and Elisabeth Weinberg NY 11 November 2006 lot 565 (sold US$3,600). Reference: This figure is one of a set of musicians produced at Derby all loosely based on Meissen prototypes. A similar figure is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and is also marked IG in Roman script. It has been said that this may refer to the London atelier of Jame Giles.
