Description:
A George III oak bureau, last quarter 18th century, of typical form, the fall front enclosing a yew-veneered fitted interior of small drawers and compartments above two short and three graduated long drawers, on a moulded plinth base, the centre of the fall carved in relief with the name of George Amyand flanking an escutcheon of the Amyand arms above an inlaid motif, 105 cm high, 102 cm wide, 53 cm deep. Provenance: George Amyand, late 18th century. Other Notes: the date of the bureau would seem to preclude the possibility that it belonged to Sir George Amyand (1720-1766). His Son Sir George Cornewall (ne Amyand, 1748-1819) is a more likely possibility.
