Description:
A 'The flying machine', metal wire and found metal objects, length 4.6m, width 4.2m. Kym Kennedy needs no introduction to collectors of rustic metal sculptures. Mackley loved the artists work and commissioned him to do a number of pieces which he featured around his property. In the mid 80s Mackley was inspired to collect his work after viewing a 7 metre tall sculpture commissioned by the Australian Tourist Commission which is on permanent display at the association's office in Canberra. The flying machine modelled on man's birth in aviation. Mackley wanted something to catch the eye and express his love for the arts when visitors came to his restaurant. The sculpture placed in a prominent position on top of a large heavy metal pole, fitted well in the ambience of the garden setting. The sculpture because of its construction was assembled on site and took some weeks to produce, it was just what he wanted and it was one of his favourite pieces in his vast collection
