Description:
A bronze figure of 'The Archer' by Ernst Moritz Geyger (1861-1941), the standing naked figure wearing a helmet and drawing a bow, inscribed 'E. M. Geyger Fec.', with Gladenbeck foundry inscription to base, on a verde antico marble plinth. Overall height 35 cm. Provenance: The Estate of the Hon. Dr John Kennedy McLaughlin Am, Sydney. Other notes: Geyger began work on the figure of the Archer in 1895, a four metre version of the model was submitted to the Grosse Berliner Kunstaustellung in 1900. The Kaiser bought the piece and installed it in Sanssouci. The Archer was edited in three different sizes and proved very popular for the Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin.
