1908 Victorian Football League Premiership Medal: The 15ct gold medal awarded to William Payne with 'C.F.C. Premiers' engraved to the panel on front and engraved verso 'Pres'd by A. McCRACKEN Esq., President- 1908 - W. Payne'. Carlton defeated Essendon by 9 points in the Grand Final, winning its third successive flag. William (Billy) Payne (1881-1967) was a half-back flanker who played in Carlton's losing 1904 VFL Grand Final is his debut season. He was one of Carlton's stars in their 1906 Grand Final Premiership, being awarded Best on Ground. Also playing at centre half-back and full-back, Payne played in Carlton's 1907 and 1908 Grand Final wins to complete a personal hat' trick of premiership flags.
