Description:
A William IV mahogany cased bracket clock, the movement by Dent of London, the silvered dial with Roman hours within engraved spandrels and face inscribed: E. J. Dent, / 54 / Royal exchange / London / 1220. The case of ogee outline with brass urn finials and flanked by a pair of engaged columns on a moulded base with reeded bun feet, height 64 cm, Other Notes: Dent was a London manufacturer of luxury clocks and watches, founded by Edward John Dent. Dent began making watches in 1814, although the Dent triangular trade mark was not registered until 1876. A notable success for the Company was winning the contract to make the clock for the new palace of Westminster in 1852, which became known as Big Ben.
