Description:
A George III Harewood, sycamore, burr yew and marquetry pembroke table, possibly by Ince and Mayhew, the rectangular twin-flap top inlaid with a burr yew central oval within a pearled border and garland, the flaps and real and false end drawers with yew ovals and pearled swags, the drawer fitted with leather lined writing surface and a pen tray, on square tapering legs with brass castors, height 72.5 cm, width 80 cm (extended), depth 61 cm. Provenance: The Robert Compton Jones Collection. Other Notes: Its yew veneer, as well as its Etruscan pearl-strings and sycamore border were ornaments particularly favoured in the 1770s by the Soho cabinet-makers Messrs Mayhew and Ince (L.Wood, catalogue of commodes: The Lady Lever Art Gallery, London, 1994, no. 27), two similar tables were sold at Christie's New York, important English furniture, 25 April 2008, lot 68.
