Andrew Kippis, the life of Captain James cook, (Dublin: Chamberlaine, Colles, et al., 1788) 1st Irish edition, issued in the same year as the first London edition; 8vo, contemporary calf, the spine with gilt and contrasting label, blank endpapers, XVI, 527pp, bookplate of William Blair of Blair to front paste down. The first biography of cook. With access to Admiralty records and Joseph Banks' papers, Kippis was able to present a good account of Cook's public and professional life. The work is most valuable for the account of Cook's death, drawn directly from Samwell's published account.
