Description:
An Omega Chronostop wristwatch with rare red dial. Fitted with red leather strap. Date function at 3 o'clock. Swiss Omega manual wind movement. Approximate case diameter 34.5 mm. Omega's first attempt at a driving watch, the Speedmaster, ended up on the moon, so they built the Chronostop to fill in the gap. The Swiss watch world is at its best when making sport watches for extremely specific purposes. Omega, for example, offered a truly gorgeous and horologically interesting wristwatch for timing soccer matches through the 1960s and '70s. In this world where mechanical wristwatches were imperative for timing events, accurate and tough built sport watches dominated Omega's catalog. The Chronostop was designed for and marketed to the driver. When behind the wheel, this model could be worn on or underneath the wrist with a single pusher at two o'clock for starting, stopping, and resetting the chronograph without the fuss of two pushers. The chronograph was only useful if your race lap, or whatever you were timing, was under one minute ' if not, go faster! This Chronostop dates back to 1969 and represents one of the simplest references from the product line with no internal bezel. Without additional noise, the beautiful Burgundy dial with its racing minute track is given more room to breathe. Paired with an original Omega stainless-steel mesh bracelet, the resulting watch is a complete and well refined look.
