Description:
A pair of gilt-bronze figures of seated Buddhas, Ming Dynasty, 16TH-17th century both figure is shown seated in dhyanasana, the hands in front of the bare chest, dressed with robes open at the chest revealing a sash-tied dhoti beneath an incised wan emblem, the borders of their robes finely incised with floral scroll, 24 cm high and 23.5 cm high. Provenance: an old private collection, Germany. The current owner inherited them via her grandfather who was apparently in China in 1900 to 1902 during the boxer Rebellion and obtained them during that time. He later worked with the Tax Department in Germany where the current owner was born, and who emigrated to Australia in 1964. (original letters from current owner's grandfather) 1900-1920
