A Rolex Explorer wristwatch. Ref 1016. Circa 1960. Serial 517xxx. 36 mm stainless steel case, Rolex calibre 1570 mechanical movement, Type 1 gilt dial with original hands. Fully serviced May 2021 with new original parts, Rolex Plexi Crystal and Crown. Aftermarket Bracelet. The Explorer 1016 is one of the most iconic Rolex's, and was in production for almost 30 years. This reference started with a gilt, glossy dial, and towards late 1966 to early 1967 the manufacturer switched to a matte dial with painted numerals, which was produced well into the 1980s. This early example from 1960 has one of the desirable aforementioned gilt dials.
