Description:
A rare sterling silver basket with swing handle, decorated with a filigree work of birds, grape and vine leaves. The rim decorated with applied bunches of grapes, shaped blue glass liner, marked to base 'Walsh & Sons, Melbourne' with makers mark W.E, maker William Edwards, retailed by Walsh & Sons, Melbourne, height 18 cm (to top of handle). Other Notes: William Edwards arrived in July 1857 from London. He is listed in the Melbourne directory at 129 Collins Street East in 1859. Exhibited at the international exhibition in 1861.
