Description:
The Duke of Wellington drum, it is reputed that the drum was once owned by the Duke of Wellington. It was used in military religious padres during drum head Services on various battlefields of Europe. These padres have signed the drum, and it is believed to also contain the signature of William IV. England, 19th century. Diameter 72 cm, height 72 cm. Provenance: by repute, the Duke of Wellington, Apsley house, London, gifted to the 1st Earl of Ancastes, Gilbert Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby, Grimthorpe castle, England, by descent to the 2nd Earl of Ancastes, Gilbert James Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby, Grimthorpe castle, England, gifted to the Reverend P. J. Hayes, by descent to the current owner, Sydney.
