Description:
A fine Sheraton period George III knife box, the 'Fold-front' case in flame mahogany veneers inlaid with boxwood, satinwood and ebony, with paktong metal mounts and feet and a silver shield-shaped armorial. Paktong is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc which was imported from china in small quantities during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centruries. It's name is derived from the romanisation of the Cantonese pronounciation of the Chinese characters for white copper. Original fitted interior. English circa 1795. 37 x 25 x 25 cm
