Description:
Melbourne Cricket Club: Army trunk from World War I, inscribed on top 'Lieut W.Flintoft, A.I.F., 58th Battn', one handle missing, otherwise good condition for a military trunk. (William Flintoft played football for Melbourne 1909-12 and St Kilda 1913, and served as President of the Melbourne Football Club 1947-49. He played for the Melbourne Cricket Club 1909 to 1927, and served on the MCC Committee from 1937 until his death in 1951. During World War I he served in the First Australian Imperial Force as a Second Lieutenant in the 58th Battalion, and saw action in Egypt, France and Belgium. He fought in many of the deadliest battles of World War 1 such as Fromelles, Amiens and Mont St Quentin).
