The libretto, by Charles-Simon Favart, is based on Voltaire's Ce qui plait aux dames and Chaucer's the Wife of Bath's Tale. This portrait possibly depicts Marie-Therese Laruette (1744 –1837) a French opera singer. 154.5 x 70 cm
