A Wedgwood terracotta wine cooler, circa 1840, the exterior decorated with a bas relief of a Bacchanalian triumph, flanked by two handles. Incised Wedgwood to base, along with the shaper number 654, 25 cm high, other Notes: the Bacchanalian 'Triumph' was inspired by the Borghese vase now in the Louvre - the original vase is of Pentelic marble and the figures on it are carved in base relief to represent a ceremony sacred to Dionysus (Bacchus)
