A Japanese Arita ware blue and white charger, late Edo period, circa 1750-1780, decorated with dragons and rabbits admist scrolling flowers to the cavetto, and scrolling peonies to the centre. Six character Chinese Wanli reign mark to underside of base, 33 cm diameter, other Notes: high quality porcelain pieces made in the Arita kilns would often bear the Chinese Imperial reign marks, as a statement of respect for the Chinese ceramic tradition, for which Japanese porcelain owes much of its techniques and designs
