A peridot and turquoise brooch, the pear faceted peridot, to an old European cut diamond, with three turquoise cut en cabochon, set to a double bar brooch, having been converted from a single earring, possibly Russian, the earring in 14ct gold and brooch in 9ct gold, by repute, this brooch / earring belonged to Catherine the great of Russia 1729-1796. Transcription of the original letter by Rosetta Baskaville detailing the Purported Provenance: of the Earrring: Catherine II of Russia was born at Stetton, a German Princess - and named, Sophia Augusta - she married Peter of Holstein, heir to the Russian throne, and changed her name to Catherine on changing her faith from Lutheran to, Orthodox., She bequeathed all her general jewels to her German nieces, among them a pair of earrings consisting of a large drop Olivine surmounted by a crescent of small turquoise and a small rose diamond in a heart of a gold flower - the whole mounted in gold., one of her nieces, a Princess of Auhalt married the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont - from her descended Elizabeth who married a Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe - she lived for many years in retirement at Schloss, Schwalbach near Wiesbaden., on June 2nd 1864 - Prince Albrecht of Waldeck and Pyrmont (1841-1897) of Cieve, Germany married Dorothea Gage (1834-1883) of Rathlin Island, Nth, Ireland, to whom the Kaiser Wilhelm I granted the title of Countess von, Rhoden, to be borne by all her Sons and daughters. She was known as the rose of the North' and was celebrated for her horsemanship., after the deaths of Prince Albrecht and the Countess von Rhoden, their younger daughter Nellie (Helen Harriet Dorothea -1872-1952) made her, home at Schloss Schwalbach with her Aunt Elizabeth of Schaumburg-Lippe., during the stress of the war Years they sold many of their valuables and the pair of earrings were bought for '10 by Mrs. St.George Johnston (who had, them valued at their intrinsic worth) nee Countess Ada Kate (1869-1938) von, Rhoden - she resold one earring to her cousin Rosetta
