Description:
A rare Regency teak twin pedestal campaign dining table with two leaves, the rectangular top with rounded corners and reeded edge on ring turned column supports raised on four out swept reeded legs terminating in brass castors, with later supporting rails, 225 cm long (extended). Width 137 cm. Height 71 cm. Note: This table is made from teak instead of mahogany as it is far better suited to the tropical temperatures and humidity of the Indian climate. In design it is almost identical to what had been produced during the late Georgian period in England but with important constructional variations, the table needed to be completely dismantled for transportation and re-assembling in the officers' mess for evening meals and so the top was originally only held onto the pedestals by wooden pins (new screws have been added for stability) and everything could be packed into a single travelling case.
