Description:
Kano school a six fold screen with a design of cranes in a landscape on a gold background, signed by Kano Sanraku (1559-1635). Width 370 cm. Height 173 cm. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from the David Jones Art gallery in September 1982. Note: Kano Sanraku along with Eitkou was considered one of the most gifted of the Kano school. His work, typical of the Momoyama paintings, less flamboyant than Eitkou, less grandiose, more careful, more ordered and restrained, often used a decorative style in strong colour on a gold ground
