Description:
A fine George III ormolu-mounted tortoiseshell veneered striking musical automaton table clock, made for the ottoman Market by Markwick Markham, London, triple fusee movement, verge escapement with a select lever at three on the side of the dial, each side mounted with ormolu panels decorated in openwork with floral and foliate sprays issuing from urns, the corners with ormolu pilasters surmounted by pine cone finials, the face decorated in polychrome enamel with floral sprays surrounding the silvered chapter ring and signed Markwick Markham London, the hinged glazed door to back enclosing the elaborately decorated and signed back plate and movement, Note, Markwick Markham (1725-1805) specialised in clocks for the Turkish market, including long cases, bracket clocks and watches.
