World War I Star medal awarded to '16/385 Pte. H Mete Kingi. N.Z.E.F.' Private Henare Mete Kingi of Pukiki, served with the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion and embarked on the Warrimoo on 14 February 1915. He was the son of a well-known Wanganui Chief, Hoana Mete Kingi. A younger son, Cpl. Teira Mete Kingi was killed at Gallipoli. The two brothers were grandsons of Mete Kingi Paetahi, the first Maori member elected to the House of Representatives. He died on 14/9/1915 at the age of 19. Complete with ribbon and copies of military information
