'Gullwing' Chassis No.: WDB1980405500210 Engine No.: 5500232 Reg.: UnregisteredCreated to spearhead Mercedes-Benz's return to competition post World War II, the 300SL was first entered in the 1952 Mille Miglia, driven by the pre-war master Rudolph Caracciola with Kurle as co-driver, and the second car driven by the almost equally famous Karl Kling with Klenk as co-driver. The Mercedes Benz crew had spent two months learning the course and training the pit personnel and the result was a 2nd place for King and a 4th place for Caracciola.
