Jean Schlumberger debuted his gold and enamel bracelets in 1962. They were instantly popularised by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who received her first bracelet, a white and gold enamel version as a gift from her close friend Rachel Bunny' Mellon. Jackie loved the bracelet so much that she ordered another in cobalt blue soon to be followed by other shades. They became one of her signature pieces, second only perhaps to her large sunglasses. Since Jackie was frequently photographed wearing Schlumberger's enamel bracelets, the fashion press subsequently nicknamed the jewels, 'The Jackie Bracelets.' They continue to be highly sought after.
