Description:
A large Chinese blue and white temple censer, Qing dynasty, dated '23rd year of Guangxu', 1897. Painted with two striding dragons separated by a framed inscription, 'Made for the Li family Ancestral Temple' (or Hall), and 'Commissioned by Xi Qiu', an eight-character cyclical dated mark 'Guangxu, guangding year, Shang Guang village'., 22 cm high, 28 cm diameter. See 'Chinese Blue and White Porcelain and Related Underglaze Red', OCS of HK, February 1975, cat no 118 for a very similar censer dated to the Daoguang period. Provenance: R & V Tregaskis, Sydney.
