German silver gilt lidded 19th century chalice having a figural finial of Athena standing on a cover decorated with flora & mythical sea creatures. The bowl with raised figures of sirens & medieval figures before a village scene above a body with detail showing various figures, animals & intricate foliate detail. The urn shaped stem having two facial panels over a fine pierced cherubic scene on an etched footed base reading 'Ioanni Govgh Et Lvciae Nichols Votis Post Qvintvm Lvstrvm Probatis XI Kal Sextil A.C. M.D. Ccc Lx VIII'. Possibly Stuttgart. Condition good, minor age related wear & fading to the gilding. Height 60 cm. Weight 1973g
